The illustrated study guide for the cosmetology written exam. Hair, chemical services, nails and skin, explained in a clear, visual, and easy-to-remember way.
These are real pages from the kit — PDFs you download, not a video course or a printed book. Swipe through:

Each of the 120 pages in Book 1 follows the same pattern: one idea, one drawing, and an Exam Trap callout, plus a Memory Hook on 113 of them. The cards and glossary point back to those pages.
A 120-page theory book that follows the exam outline, 60 rapid review cards, and a bonus A–Z of 100 key terms.
A drawing does the explaining, and the text stays short. You remember the picture on exam day.
Portrait pages sized for a phone screen. Study in five-minute gaps, or print them if you prefer paper.
About 1 in 2 don’t pass
That’s roughly how many cosmetology written exams end in a fail.
The toughest topics are the ones that are easy to mix up and hard to memorize:

A picture is easier to remember than a list of terms. That’s why every one of these is drawn out in the kit.
Estimate based on Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation exam statistics: 49.05% of 21,331 cosmetology operator written exams passed in fiscal year 2025 (all attempts, including retakes).
Most states give the NIC national written exam, and some write their own. Both are built from the same standard textbooks, and the kit follows the NIC outline page by page, so your study time goes to what the outline lists.
Does your state write its own exam? Texas, Florida, New York, Illinois and several other states do. It covers the same textbook ground with its own weights and usually some state law. Check your state's candidate bulletin for its outline and law section; Book 1's state lookup shows which exam your state uses.
Numbers above are for the NIC National Cosmetology Theory exam, from the published candidate bulletin (effective July 1, 2022, revised Jan 1, 2026). Passing scores are set by each state. Every page in Book 1 is tagged with its NIC outline code and its PSI content area.
A lot of exam mistakes aren't things you never learned. They're near-twins that are easy to mix up under time pressure, like these:
That's what the Exam Trap and Memory Hook boxes are for. The trap names the mix-up in plain words, and the hook helps you keep it straight:
Yellow is cancelled by violet, not blue. Blue cancels orange. Choose the color straight across the wheel, not any cool color.

Your program ends with a written exam, and it's getting close. You need the theory to finally click, not another chapter to reread.
Work, kids, clinic floor hours. Your study time is ten minutes on your phone. One page, one idea, done.
The material is in your head somewhere. Now you need it organized the way the exam outline lays it out.
No gimmicks and no shortcuts — just the exam outline, drawn clearly.
Every page starts from the NIC National Cosmetology Theory outline and uses the same terms as the standard textbooks your school teaches from.
Where sources disagree, or a rule varies by state, the page says so — in plain words, right where you're studying it.
Each page carries its outline code. If a topic isn't on the exam outline, it isn't in the book taking up your study time.
We're an independent study aid — not affiliated with NIC, PSI, Prometric, Milady, or any state board. We just make the material easier to see.
Use the kit for 7 days. If it doesn't help you, email us and you get 100% of your money back. No fine print, no hassle.

The written exam doesn't have to be the scary part of getting licensed. You don't need to reread the textbook. You need to see how the material fits together, the way the exam outline lays it out.
